RAJASTHAN – Shekawati Region Photographs

Rajasthan – Shekawati Region Photographs

Shekawati is a semi-arid historical region located in the Thar Desert region of northeast Rajasthan, India. In the 17th to early 20th centuries, merchants constructed grand multistoried houses called havelis, with richly decorated wall murals inside and out. Each merchant tried to be even grander than their neighbour and you find street after street full of painted buildings, many now in various stages of decay. Painted frescoes include images of gods and goddesses, animals and birds. The main towns we visited were Dunlod, Mahansar, Mandawa, Nawalgarh and Ramgarh. It was an amazing finish to our 6 weeks in Rajasthan.
